What does critical thinking mean in a world with conflicting perspectives?
It is through moments such as these that there is a lack of fostering relationships, noticing the emotions that are present, or the 'lessons' from the past. I feel that moments such as these come from choice, which can lead to clouding ones perception. The question is as educators how can we be more preventative by raising the need for greater emphasis on moral education?

When encountered by incidences in our lives, it is important to give ourselves the time to stop and reflect what is happening. Experience the experience as opposed to remembering the experience. (Falkenberg, 28) Isn't this the concept behind metacognition? However, how can we achieve this when we have not developed our awareness to notice the qualities of the experience? To raise awareness and acknowledge the present moment is an essential first step to being mindful. It is important to contemplate about the behaviours behind the action, as opposed to being reactive to an action. Just as in the short animation, 'The Present', you initially see the lack of being present. However once there is recognition, and a connection is made, you see the presence of empathy arise which enlightens the moment. As educators are we facilitating these moments of enlightenment to contemplate what is before us? Are we experiencing the experience or passing over what the key lessons are before us? |
